***************************************************************************** D-DAY UPDATE & MODEM PLAY DISK VER. 1.1 ***************************************************************************** Jan. 30, 1995 This update will fix the following problems that have been encountered in D-Day, Beginning of the End. * Transports unable to off-load or load Divisions. * Fortified troops always being Tired. * Divide errors in the " Race for Berlin " & " Battle of the Bulge " campaigns. * Problems with the Victory Point tallies and Game End conditions. * Sound Blaster settings. * Duplicate US 4th Divisions. * Altering the Start Date for any campaign. This update will also allow you to play D-Day vs. a human opponent using Modem and Null-Modem links. ***** PLEASE NOTE *********************************************************** This patch will NOT fix existing Game Saves. If you have a Game Save that is experiencing any of these problems, you will have to start the game over. ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** To INSTALL the update, please do the following: ***************************************************************************** 1) Place the D-Day Update Floppy Disk in your 3.5" Floppy drive. 2) Change to that drive. For Example; if your 3.5" Floppy drive is B, then type B: < ENTER > 3) Type COPY DDAYUP1.EXE C:\< DIR > where DIR is the directory that you installed D-DAY to. For Example; if your game is in a directory called DDAY on the C Drive, then type COPY DDAYUP1.EXE C:\DDAY < ENTER > 4) When the Floppy drive light goes out, change to your Hard Drive that has D-Day installed. 5) Change to the D-Day directory. 6) Type DDAYUP1 < ENTER > 7) The files will be loaded onto your Hard Drive. ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** The Update will change the following file in your directory; DDAY.EXE The Update will add the following file to your directory; DDAYM.EXE These files will take up an additional 1.4 MEG on your Hard Drive. ***************************************************************************** Modem & Null-Modem Play ***************************************************************************** **** NOTE *************************************************************** To play D-Day via modem or Null-Modem, you must have at least 600K Conventional Memory free.If you do not have this available, the game will not connect properly. If you do not have enough Conventional Memory, consult your Technical Support & Tutorial manual, page 38-40. For Null-Modem play, a SERIAL LAP LINK cable is needed. For Modem play, a 100% HAYES compatible modem is needed. If your modem requires a special Init string in order to operate, then it is not 100% HAYES compatible, and it will NOT WORK with D-Day. ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** To play D-Day via Modem or Null-Modem, please follow these instructions: ***************************************************************************** 1) Exit any menu, or shell program. Exit Windows completely. This game will not run in Windows or through the Windows DOS prompt. 2) Go to the directory in which D-Day is installed. 3) Before entering the game, determine which player will be the PRIMARY machine. The PRIMARY machine will make ALL decisions at the start of a modem or Null-Modem game. Players should agree on which BAUD rate to use before starting D-Day. 4) Type DDAYM 5) The player that will be the PRIMARY machine should choose the PRIMARY button. The other player should select the SECONDARY button. If both players select the same button, the game will not establish a Modem or Null-Modem link. 6.1) The PRIMARY machine will now make the following choices; A) The type of game to be played. The choices are; Standard Game Load Game Save Historical Scenario B) Select the side that the PRIMARY machine will play. C) Select the type of link to be used, either ; DIRECT LINK for Null-Modem game. MODEM CONNECT for restarting a game while the link is still established. MODEM DIAL for the PRIMARY machine to input the number to call. MODEM AWAIT CONTACT for the SECONDARY machine to instruct their modem to wait for a call. D) Select the Baud rate that the players have agreed on. E) Select the Comm port which you have your Modem set to, or Null-Modem cable attached to. F) When all this information has been input, hit the SETUP button. G) In a Modem game, a dialogue box will appear asking for the number to dial. In a Null-Modem game this step is skipped. H) The PC will now establish the link. If the link is not established in 40 seconds, you will need to repeat steps A through G again. 6.2) The SECONDARY player will need to follow these instructions; A) Exit any menu, or shell program. Exit Windows completely. This game will not run in Windows or through the Windows DOS prompt. B) Go to your D-Day directory. C) Type DDAYM D) Select SECONDARY. E) Set the Baud rate & Comm Port for your machine. F) Under LINK TYPE, select MODEM AWAIT CONTACT. If playing by Null-Modem you should select DIRECT LINK. G) Your PC will wait 2 minutes for the link to be established. 7) A LINK ESTABLISHED box will appear and show you the progress of the file transfer. 8) Once the game begins, the PRIMARY machine will set ALL OPTIONS used in the Modem & Null-Modem game. ***************************************************************************** Chat Mode ***************************************************************************** To access the Chat Mode, used to send messages back and forth during the game, press the 0 ( ZERO ) key. Cut Link To break the link between machines, enter the Chat Mode and select the CUT LINK button. The Modem / Null-Modem connection will be broken. ***************************************************************************** Sound Blaster Settings ***************************************************************************** PC's with Sound Blaster 16, & Sound Blaster AWE 32 boards should set up D-Day for the Sound Blaster 1 setting.
